The practice has always been at 72 Brynymor Road and was founded by Optician John Dryden in the 1940's. It was later taken over by Wyndham Rees and in 1968 became Huw Williams Optician. Huw Bellamy Optometrist was established in 2005. The practice has evolved to provide comprehensive eye care for all ages in a friendly and professional environment. We have invested in equipment, technology and post graduate training to expand the scope of eye examinations and services provided. Optical assistants Margaret, Dawn and Claire have been with the practice since 2004, 2010 and 2018 respectively.
Huw is from Gelligaer in the Rhymney Valley and graduated in Optometry at Cardiff University in 1997. He has always practiced in Swansea and has attained further qualifications in Glaucoma, Medical Retina (eg: diabetic eye disease and macula degeneration), Dry Eye Disease, Low Vision and Acute Eye Care. Huw has worked for the Welsh Optometric Post Graduate Education Centre at Cardiff University as a tutor and supervisor. He now works with a small group of fellow community Optometrists and Singleton Hospital Medical Retina team in the management of diabetic eye disease. Huw is once again a student and by the end of 2023 will be a qualified Independent Prescriber, widening the scope of clinical practice.
